<b>Monday 1 June:</b> Hospital fire, the North West's got talent and Sven says goodbye

A FIRE at Manchester Royal Infirmary has caused two wards to be evacuated. Around 70 patients had to be moved to other wards on Saturday afternoon. Smoke filled a large part of the hospital near the Accident and Emergency department. Two patients had to be treated for smoke inhalation. An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.

A MAN has been stabbed to death as he walked home in Greater Manchester. The 39-year-old was walking along Middleton Road , Crumpsall when he was approached by two men on Saturday. He was taken to North Manchester Hospital but died from his wounds. A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. Police are now appealing for witnesses.

THE NORTH WEST is now home to the best talent in Britain. Teenager George Sampson from Warrington won ITV's Britain's Got Talent and Jodie Prenger from Blackpool won the role of Nancy in the BBC's I'd do anything at the weekend. George Sampson often performed his breakdance act on Market Street in Manchester city centre. He won the show with a breakdance performance to Singin' in the Rain.

SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON is no longer the manager of Manchester City. Former Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra had reportedly been unhappy with City's results this year. Eriksson told BBC Sport: "I have enjoyed my time at Manchester City very much and I would like to thank the fans, players and staff for their amazing support.

I'm glad George Sampson :)And nice to know he was able to use the money from busking for that.Probably means we won't see him around anymore. It was actually nice watching him on saturday while wandering through town.HURRAH for talented street dancers!!
