Friday 5 June: Oasis had no power, England supporter shot and Police urge criminals to own up

Published on June 5th 2009.

HYDE AND STALYBRIDGE MP James Purnell has resigned from Cabinet, prompting further speculation about the future of Gordon Brown as leader of the Labour Party. In his resignation letter, Purnell made clear that Brown's continued leadership made a Tory victory “more, not less likely”.

THE HOMECOMING gig by Oasis was marred by two powercuts last night, leading Noel Gallagher to pledge a full £45 refund. After the disruptions, Noel told the crowd “This is a free gig – let's have it”. According to Confidential's calculations, the “free gig” is set to cost more than £3m!

AN ENGLAND SUPPORTER from Rochdale has been shot in the run up to the World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan. The 30 year old man was in a bar in neighbouring Kyrgyztan when shot in the leg. It is understood the victim's has now been discharged and the British honary consul are “liasing with the local authorities”.

GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE are appealing to insurance fraudsters to admit their crime in a month long “lie amnesty”. GMP's current amnesty is aimed at reducing falsely reported incidents by offering those that come forward immunity from prosecution.

This 'n' That wisdom: Learning without thinking is so much wasted energy

Taken from the free calendar available at This 'n' That, Soap Street, Northern Quarter. Those curry masters are so very, very sagacious. How does this wisdom rate? 7/10

Or perhaps the British honorary consul are “liaising with the local authorities”???

Great sentiment from Noel, and nice of them to offer. But when you consider the booking fee and extra charges lumped on by ticketba****d you've probably spent over £52 for the ticket, not £45.

The best thing about the powercuts was that you could no longer hear Oasis.

What's there to complain about? You got to see Oasis, (albeit not as long as you'd hoped), other bands and it probably wasnt that bad an evening, AND technically you've only had to part with £7 for the privalage!? My god, TRAVESTY. Is it me or is it very British to see every situation in its worst possible light? STRUTH
