AN OTTER HAS BEEN CAUGHT on CCTV cameras mooching around the city centre. Usually inhabiting rural rivers and waterways, the otter was spotted wandering along West Mosley Street, Booth Street and the town hall. One shop owner said he did a double take when the otter dashed behind his car.
THE FIRST LOCOMOTIVE model will steam through Gorton today as part of its 100th birthday celebrations. The Museum of Science and Industry is taking the K1, the first Beyer Garratt produced by the Beyer Peacock Company, back to its birthplace in Gorton to celebrate 100 years since it first steamed off the production line. The loco will be at the Tesco and Gorton Market’s car park at 12pm for viewing by the public and then on to Brookfield Church at 1.30pm.
TWO CAMPERS WERE THROWN in the river after being attacked for cigarettes. The group was at a site off Spotland Road, Rochdale, in the early hours of Friday when two men walked up and demanded some cigarettes. A 17-year-old boy was punched, two men were thrown into the river and a third man jumped in to escape. Two men from Falinge, aged 23 and 24 have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
SLUMDOG’S DANNY BOYLE has pledged to support young people in Bury fight drink and drug problems. Also director of Trainspotting, Boyle has become a patron of Bury-based charity, Early Break, and said he "could not think of a better charity to get involved with".
