Friday 14 November: Police watchdog to look into tot deaths, ice bandit investigation and Town Hall bells do an all-nighter

Published on November 14th 2008.

A 21-YEAR OLD MOTHER has been detained under the Mental Health Act and an investigation is underway after her two sons were found dead at a house in Cheetham Hill. The bodies of Romario Mullings-Sewell, aged two, and his three-month-old brother, Delayno, were found on Wednesday evening. A police watchdog is to investigate Greater Manchester Police's response to calls made in the hours before two young boys were killed.

RESIDENTS IN MANCHESTER CITY CENTRE may have noticed the town hall bells chiming constantly last night. A defective time switch caused the fault and experts had to be called in to fix the problem. It's expected to be back to normal in a few days time.

THREE GREATER MANCHESTER MEN are being investigated over the thefts of more than 40 cars. A gang who call themselves 'ice bandits' stole cars, which were left running by their owners during cold weather, across the North West. The three men are due to appear before Bolton magistrates.

MANCHESTER UNITED'S next Carling Cup opponents will be announced when the quarter-final draw takes place on Saturday. The quarter-finals could again see Sir Alex Ferguson give a chance to some of his younger stars according to manutd.com. Defender Jonny Evans told the website: "The manager always gives youngsters a chance here, so hopefully I'll get more games. Whoever we get in the next round will be tough but it would be nice to get another run-out."
