Friday 12 September: North West's space rocket, cancer wonder pill faker and De Souza's City debut

Published on September 12th 2008.

A NEW hybrid rocket engine that produces almost no harmful emissions is being developed in Hyde. Steve Bennett, or “Rocket Man”, the head of Starchaser Industries, has received a £130,000 grant from the Northwest Development Agency. It is hoped that the enviromentally-friendly engine, which uses waste products, could eventually be used aboard commerical space rockets.

AROUND forty firefighters were called to a huge blaze at an industrial laundry and storage warehouse in the early hours of the morning. Roads around the fire at the Linen Warehouse in West Gorton, including Pottery Lane, Gorton Road, Tuley Street, Vaughan Street and Bennett Street, have been closed as firefighters try to establish the cause of the incident.

A SALE MAN has been forced to close an online business selling a natural wonder 'cure' for cancer. Andrew Harris sold pills costing hundreds of pounds on his websites, but has been found guilty of providing information on the treatment of cancer outside the medical profession. It is illegal to offer a cure for cancer.

ROBSON DE SOUZA, Britain's most expensive footballer, is expected to make his debut for Manchester City tomorrow. The 24-year-old Brazilian, better known as Robinho, was signed to the club for a record £32.5 million. The former Real Madrid player is expected to arrive in Eastlands by private jet tomorrow, paid for by City's new, oil-rich owners, in time for City's clash with Chelsea. Chelsea's attempt to sign the player was thwarted by City at the last minute.
