Wednesday 18 February: Man hunt for child sex suspect, elected mayor for Manchester and a Rusholme raid

Published on February 18th 2009.

A MAN HUNT is on for Collin Molloy from Manchester in connection with a series of alleged child sex attacks more than 20 years ago. Molloy, 45, is wanted over allegations he raped two young girls aged seven and four and sexually assaulted a young boy. The incidents date back as far as 1985. Molloy was last known to be working in Blackpool in 2007.

THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY want Manchester to have an elected mayor who is able to make decisions on major issues within the city. Tory leader David Cameron has said he wants Manchester and other cities to have a mayor with powers like Boris Johnson in London. Londoners have been governed by an elected mayor since 2000.

LADBROKES ON WILMSLOW ROAD in Rusholme has been raided. Armed robbers escaped with cash after threatening staff at around 10pm on Monday. They forced a rear door to the premises as employees were closing for the night. Det Con Matt Smith said: "There were quite a lot of people in the area at the time. I would appeal to them, or anyone else who has information about this robbery, to call us."

THE BRIT AWARDS take place tonight at London's Earls Court and will be presented by former Brit winner, Kylie Minogue. Duffy and Coldplay are favourites to win with both receiving four nominations, whilst Bury band Elbow are up for three. The Pet Shop Boys will close the show with Lady GaGa after receiving an award for outstanding contribution.
