Thursday 9 October: Trams take time, headteacher takes trip and Budweiser take another two years at United

Published on October 9th 2008.

NEW TRAMS won't be ready until the end of next year much to the frustration of commuters in Manchester. The 40 new yellow trams, which were ordered in April 2007, have been billed as the fastest modes of travel. A model tram was unveiled yesterday in London and will appear at a House of Commons event next week, organised by the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority to promote Greater Manchester's future public transport network.

A HEAD TEACHER in Oldham has defended the decision to close his school for a day so that staff could go to Spain for a training course. Adrian Guy took 20 teachers from Whitegate End Primary School, Oldham to the Spanish city of Barcelona at a total cost of £5,691 claiming the trip cost less than local training programmes. Chadderton South ward councillor Dave Hibbert has argued that the school appear "careless" about money because of their choice of destination.

DRUGS AND GANG RECRUITMENT is rife at a Cheshire prison with staff struggling to cope, according to an inspection earlier this year. Inspectors at HMP Risley, near Warrington found that 60% of inmates suspected of using hard drugs such as heroin tested positive and inmates were being recruited into joining gangs with money bribes. The category C training prison was inspected in April.

BUDWEISER has extended its sponsorship deal with Manchester United. The American-based beer company has been a financial resource for the club since 2002 and will continue to be involved through to 2010.

It says something when Budweiser have to pay people like ManYoo to force their customers to drink it through lack of choice. Nobody in their right mind would ever touch the stuff given an alternative. Nasty, tasteless, homogenous crap.

I suppose with the financial difficulties AIG are in at the moment, ManU are going to be more than happy to secure any large sponsorship deal that they can.
