Published on March 25th 2009.

MACCLESFIELD HIGH SCHOOL has sent out a letter to the parents of a girl who died suddenly two months ago. The letter, signed by the deputy headmaster, threatened to ban her from the end of year prom if her attendance doesn't improve. The school has apologised and said Megan Gillan's details were kept on the computer system accidentally.

THE POSSIBLE SALE OF ST GEORGE'S CHURCH, in Gorton, has raised objections from local politicians. The Society of St Pius X has expressed an interest in purchasing the disused church. However, the breakaway Catholic group provoked outrage only matter of months ago when Bishop Williamson said he said he did not believe Nazi gas chambers existed. The Church Commissioners is considering the sale and has asked for feedback by the end of the month.

SNIFFER DOGS AND METAL DETECTORS are to be used on Manchester's Metrolink in a bid to combat anti-social behaviour. The airport-style security measures were used on Friday at Crumpsall Metrolink station. Two people were warned for possession of cannabis and a suspected thief was arrested. Police say they will be carrying out more operations like this on the Metrolink system.

A CRANE HAS COLLAPSED at a city centre building site and fallen into the River Medlock. Emergency services were called to the former Spar shop opposite the BBC on Tuesday morning. The 45-year-old driver was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary hospital for observation after the 50ft crane toppled over on the corner of Oxford Road and Hulme Street.

Well said Jinkies. Can they remind the people executing this activity that we aren't all criminals - innocent until proven guilty and all that - so there's no need to be SO rude.

I'd pay good money to see someone who was stoned try and buy a Metrolink ticket from one of those confusing machines!
