A MAN HAS BEEN STABBED SIX TIMES in a Manchester city centre fast food chain in broad daylight. The incident took place in Burger King on Mosley Street on Saturday afternoon. The 33-year-old man had bought food before getting involved in a dispute with his attacker who pulled out a knife and stabbed him six times in the crowded restaurant. During the incident it's reported onlookers were taking photographs with their mobile phones. Det Insp Mark Hudson, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “ This was a shocking incident. I urge anyone with any pictures to contact us.”Anyone with any information should call Grey Mare Lane CID on 0161 856 3540

PART-TIME RETAINED FIREFIGHTERS could replace full-time colleagues at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. Retained firefighters are fully trained members of the public, alerted at home to make their way to the station before going out to deal with an emergency. Firefighters have warned lives will be put at risk if full-time posts based at the station are axed.

OXFORD ROAD IS READY TO BE REVAMPED. Jackie Potter, chief executive of Corridor Manchester, has said £5bn developments in the area from St Peter's Square to Whitworth Park would see economic growth for the city. Plans include a £1.5bn overhaul of the universities facilities. Council chief executive, Sir Howard Bernstein commented that as one of the main routes out of Manchester, the Oxford Road Corridor is “an area with unprecedented growth potential.”
