Thursday 8 May: Brick attack, Ramada to become mega billboard and Rangers fans arrive

Published on May 8th 2008.

A WOMAN has been hit by a brick in Withington. The 20-year-old was sitting in Fog Lane Park, Withington with friends, at 8pm on Tuesday, when a group of men they went over to talk to turned abusive. The victim was treated at Wythenshawe Hospital. Police are now appealing for witnesses.

THE RAMADA RENAISSANCE HOTEL, on Deansgate is reportedly going to become a massive billboard space, until it is demolished. Developers have come up with the temporary solution to cover up what is viewed by many as one of the city's biggest eyesores. The advert would be up to 50ft high and used to promote city events. The building is then predicted to be torn down and redeveloped in 2011.

MANCHESTER BAND, The Get Out Clause, have used the city's CCTV cameras to create their music video. The group used footage of them playing in Deansgate, on a tram, on a zebra crossing and in Castlefield for the video for the song 'Paper.' They used the Freedom of Information Act which says you can retrieve footage as it is information that is held about you.

UP TO 10,000 Rangers fans will congregate in Albert Square and Piccadilly Gardens next Wednesday for the Uefa cup final. Fan zones have been set up by the council for fans who do not have tickets for the match at the City of Manchester stadium which only holds 47,000 spectators. Big screens, entertainment, food and drink will be available in the proposed zones.

A beautiful week marred again by vile yobs at work again round these parts :(The sun does tend to over tenderise the chicken brains of the local numbskulls.Perhaps they could be rounded up and hung from the Ramada like in them olden days...Clever use of CCTV and hopefully the UEFA cup will be another sucess for our city.
