POLICE HAVE BAILED A WOMAN who has been accused of causing the death of a four-year-old girl as she walked with her mother. The child, named locally as Caitlin Fitzhugh, was struck by a van when it mounted the kerb after colliding with a Ford Focus in Openshaw on Friday. The girl's 22-year-old mother, named as Stacey Strutt, suffered a broken leg. Police later bailed a 39-year-old arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A WIGAN WOMAN HAS DROWNED while on holiday in Kenya. Siobhan Meadwell died while on a boat trip from Mombasa, where she had been staying. A Foreign Office spokesman said her boyfriend was also injured but was released from hospital on Saturday. The spokesman said: "We can confirm a British national of that name drowned off the coast of Mombasa."

A MOSS SIDE SCHOOL has been criticised after spending £1,200 on a meal for staff and governors at a the Grill on the Alley just months before it closed. Auditors at the Bishop Bilsborrow Memorial RC primary school said they had “significant concerns” about the way cash was being used, and warned that it would cause “reputational damage” to the school. Manchester Confidential thinks that was a pretty good choice of restaurant.

CHRIS DE BURGH THRILLED THE AUDIENCE at Salford’s Proms in the Park on Saturday. Thousands of people gathered at Buile Hill Park to watch the aging Irish crooner sporting a black bomber jacket, perform two energetic sets, including his cheesiest greatest hit, Lady in Red.
