A CONVICTED NORTH WEST PAEDOPHILE is being investigated in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. ELBOW HAVE DOUBLED UP at the Ivor Novello awards. The Bury band won the main award for best song as well as best contemporary song at London's Grosvenor House Hotel last night. Frontman, Guy Garvey said: “It's a great honour against fierce opposition with some great songs.” He later added: “I'd like to say that, if nothing else ever happens to me in my life, these four boys have made the whole thing worth every single second.”

THE QUEEN visited Greater Manchester yesterday to mark the 50th anniversary of the British baked bean. Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh visited the Heinz factory in Wigan and were given a gift of a hamper containing dozens of tins of beans. Whilst in the region, she also opened the £83m Leigh Sports Village.
