NANDO’S on Wilmslow road has been raided by armed robbers. A substantial amount of cash was stolen by three masked men who threatened staff with a machete, sword and sledgehammer at about 10.50pm on Sunday. The men then fled in a grey Golf which drove off along Wilmslow Road, towards Didsbury. The car was later recovered by police in the Withington area. No one was hurt during the incident and police are now appealing for witnesses.
ANTI-SEMITISM is reportedly on the rise in Manchester. In the last year over 140 racist incidents against Jewish people were logged by the Community Security Trust, who provide safety advice to the Jewish community. Many of the incidents were reported on Jewish holidays such as Yom Kippur or Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
A LAPTOP is being investigated after a confidential Home Office disk was found inside it by technicians in a Greater Manchester computer repair shop. The disk was found by staff who were servicing the computer at Leapfrog Computers, in Westhoughton. The Home Office has said that because the disk was encrypted, members of the public could not have accessed its confidential contents.
CITY OWNER, Thaksin Shinawatra has been arrested in Thailand over corruption charges. The 58-year-old ended his 17 months of exile on his arrival at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. If found guilty, he could face a maximum of 15 years in prison. The ousted prime minister has since been granted bail and ordered not to leave Thailand without court permission.
