Friday 25 January: Moss Side’s new housing estate, biker’s bad luck and Busby blunder

Published on January 25th 2008.

THE BUS DEPOT on Princess Road in Moss Side is to become a housing estate. The decision comes about after years of discussion between Stagecoach and the council. The new estate is likely to be made up of three and four-bedroom eco-friendly homes in a bid to make the area more appealing to homebuyers. The development won’t begin for another two years, which is when Stagecoach will have their new depots in Sharston and Wythenshawe.

THE MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY has suffered a major blow to its redevelopment plans after their 15.6m funding bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund was rejected. The hopes were to turn the museum into an international attraction. Further funding negotiations are still underway, however it is a disappointing setback for the centre.

A STUDENT who cycles to the University of Manchester everyday has had his bicycle stolen a wopping eight times in the space of one year. Mike Joslin, who lives in Fallowfield, has experienced bike theft and vandalism time and time again despite having thoroughly securing his bikes. Greater Manchester Police have suggested that people should record the serial number of their bikes and keep photographs of them.

UNITED fans are reportedly disappointed by the club’s effort to pay tribute to mark the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster. A Busby Babes banner was displayed at the front of Old Trafford’s East Stand, however supporters noticed a mistake at the weekend. The wording displayed said ‘bouncing Babes’ instead of ‘bouncing Busby Babes’.
