COUNCIL LEADER REPRESENTS MANCHESTER IN COPENHAGEN at the Climate Summit for Mayors. Sir Richard Leese was invited to the event to showcase Manchester: A Certain Future – Our Collective Action On Climate Change, a plan that aims to reduce the city’s carbon emissions by 41 per cent by 2020. Mayors from New York to New Delhi will hear about the council’s plans to make improvements to 100,000 homes, and, among others, educating Mancunians about climate change.

A 60-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO POINTED A GUN AT POLICE has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, assault and possession of a firearm. The officers had the gun pointed at them when they stopped a car on Lytham Road in Flixton on Sunday. The gun turned out to be a blank-firing pistol. Insp Edward Birch, of Greater Manchester Police, said, “I'm sure it was a very frightening experience and at that point they had no idea the gun could only fire blanks.”

MANCHESTER IS NAMED ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS TOWNS for motorists. The road safety report was compiled by insurer Endsleigh, which placed Manchester in the top 10 most dangerous towns, but Belfast and Glasgow in the top ten safest towns. The report also found students aged 16 to 24 are safer drivers than their non-student counterparts.

A MAN WAS TRAPPED BENEATH STEEL GIRDERS after they tumbled to the ground on a construction site on York Street. The 50-year-old man broke both his legs and had to be freed using airbags and other lifting equipment.
