Monday 27 July: Blue Peter garden heading north, Jordan in town and shots at Verso bar

Published on July 27th 2009.

STAFF IN A SOUTH MANCHESTER BAR were held up by robbers brandishing shotguns as they closed-up. Three men, armed with two shotguns and a knife, targeted the Verso bar in Burton Road, Withington, just after midnight on Friday. Police said the raiders stole a "significant amount of cash", and mobile phones and wallets belonging to the staff.

JORDAN aka KATIE PRICE, caused a frenzy at Waterstones in the Arndale this weekend. The 31-year-old was promoting her new book, Sapphire, at the store. Around 600 people turned up to see the model, who didn't fail to disappoint, turning up in a sequined, turquoise leotard. Sapphire is a novel about a young woman who runs a lingerie and hen-weekend business. It's the fourth novel by Katie Price.

THE BLUE PETER GARDEN will relocate to Manchester along with the BBC children's TV department. Rumours that the garden will be replaced with a 'virtual garden' accessible online, have been dismissed by the BBC. It is not yet know how the plot, which has been an integral part of the show since 1974, will be recreated in 2011. It was originally designed by the late Percy Thrower.

MANCHESTER CITY’S HOPES of signing John Terry were left in tatters after he vowed never to leave Stamford Bridge. Amid reports that City were considering making a bid of up to £40m for the 28-year-old, the Chelsea captain broke his silence by vowing, "I am totally committed to Chelsea, always have been. Me leaving was never a possibility."
