<b>Monday 26 October</b>: Everybody to university please and sack your family workers MPs

TEN-YEAR-OLDS WILL BE GIVEN CAREER advice through a pilot scheme in Manchester. Universities and firms will give pupils a glimpse of what it is like working and learning in adulthood, as part of a broader new careers strategy. It is hoped the government scheme will help to tackle some of the "negative stereotyping" that leads some children from poorer backgrounds to believe university and certain careers are out of their reach.

MPS ACROSS GREATER MANCHESTER WILL BE FORCED to sack family members if the Kelly inquiry rules relatives should not be employed. The expected ban is likely to cause controversy when announced on the eve of Guy Fawkes night, with some threatening to take parliament to an industrial tribunal. It is thought around 200 MPs in the UK employ relatives.

TONY BLAIR LEADS TRIBUTES TO FORMER MEN political editor Ian Craig after he has died aged 64. The former PM said it was “totally shocking news” to hear of Craig’s death at his London flat, and called the leading figure in the Westminster lobby a “real credit to his profession, to British politics and to Manchester”.

A BATTERED WAR MEMORIAL IS LOOKING for its original home after it was abandoned on a scrapyard in Trafford Park for 15 years. The World War I memorial carries the names of 60 men from around the Manchester area who were killed. The War Memorial Trust is now looking for its original home before it starts restoration work of the 5ft by 30in bronze tablet.
