Tuesday 25 November: C-charge ad ban, rape rise and more stun guns for Manchester

Published on November 25th 2008.

A PUBLIC INFORMATION FILM about the proposed congestion charge has been pulled from the air after complaints that it was biased. ITV have withdrawn the film which was funded by the Department for Transport on behalf of the Greater Manchester Passenger Executive (GMPTE), after complaints were made to the broadcasting watchdog, Ofcom. In a statement, GMPTE said “We are baffled and confused why ITV pulled the commercial. We have followed every process and procedure.”

A RAPE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN is being launched over the Christmas period. Between April 1 and October 31 of this year, there were 526 rapes and attempted rapes reported in Greater Manchester and this figure is expected to rise in December and January. Superintendent Phil Owen said: “As the Christmas party season approaches, we want people who are going out to have a good time but to keep themselves safe.”

MORE TASER STUN GUNS ARE TO BE given to Greater Manchester Police. The guns are currently only available to firearms officers but following trials, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is expected to announce today that they will be made available to frontline response officers. Stun guns are viewed as a less harsh option as they work by temporarily disabling the target. Greater Manchester police have said that 'they are an effective and safe option for police officers to use in violent situations.'

ASHLEY COLE could be the next City recruit according to The Sun newspaper. City are reportedly going to bid £20m for the Chelsea defender in January's transfer window. It's also rumoured that the player is unhappy with his deal at Stamford Bridge and would welcome the move north.

I dont think Cashly cole would be a good addition to the team. He has an opinion of himself that far outweighs his ability. On the plus side it would mean boom times for any company that can offer a "mobile phone extracting" service!!!

Quote by GMPTE talking head;...."We are baffled and confused why ITV pulled the commercial" Look up: "Commercial" in dictionary then! Then think if spending close on £230,000 was worth it.
