OVER 300 JOBS could be axed following the possible closure of a Manchester dairy. Arla Foods dairy and distribution in Wythenshawe are planning to close the Manchester site to increase operational efficiency. The company said it will do all it can to find opportunities for redeployment within the organisation for the redudant workers.Union officials will meet company bosses on Tuesday.
BRITAIN'S FIRST flat-pack primary school is being assembled in Manchester. The new building has been created in a Swiss factory and shipped to Longsight. According to reports, this type of construction is quicker and saves the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of pounds. The new St Agnes Primary School will take a matter of weeks to assemble, consisting of 600 wooden panels.
BODY SCANS are reportedly going to be introduced to Greater Manchester as an alternative to post mortem examinations. The choice is to be offered to bereaved relatives who wish to refuse invasive post mortems on relgious grounds. A Bolton coroner is trialling the scheme where a hospital scanner is used to determine the cause of death. The scans cost £500, and families chosing this option will have to foot the bill.
A STATUE of Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law has been unveiled outside Manchester United's Old Trafford ground. The revealing of the artwork marks 40 years since the club lifted the European Cup for the first time. United have now won the European Cup for the third time last week, after beating Chelsea on penalties in Moscow.
