GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE are reminding people that there are three major events taking place this weekend. Officers recommend allowing extra time for journeys due to traffic and lots of people on the roads. The congestion will be caused by Take That, who are to perform at Manchester City Stadium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Music event Parklife Weekender will take place at Platt Fields Park in Fallowfields on Saturday and Sunday, and Lancashire play West Yorkshire at the cricket game at Old Trafford on Friday.

A DRUGS CASE against businessman Arran Coghlan has collapsed. Coghlan, who walked free from Strangeways prison last night at 6pm, was released on grounds that there was not sufficient evidence to convict him. Mr Coghlan commented, “Anyone who knows me knows I have nothing to do with drugs whatsoever.” Mr Coghlan had been arrested two years ago by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of participating in a large cocaine smuggling ring.

A TEENAGER was sexually assaulted on her way home from a night out in Tyldesley. The nineteen year old was threatened by man with a kitchen knife on Factory Street. He then sexually assaulted her. The man is being described as black, in his thirties, 6ft and of average build. Police are advising people to avoid walking home alone.

A MAN has been arrested by officers from Greater Manchester Police under the terrorism act. The 25 year old from Bolton is being held in custody for questioning. A spokesperson asserted that there was no specific threat to the Greater Manchester area.

Fact of the Day: The week in 1890 Salford hero Mark Addy died. Having saved over 50 people from drowning in the Irwell, he was awarded the Albert Medal by the Queen.
