Police and parents clamp down on looters, more from Stepping Hill and missing artwork

Written by . Published on August 12th 2011.

POLICE raided nine Salford properties yesterday following information from the public about suspected looters. Three people were arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to 176. GMP Assistant Chief Constable Terry Sweeney said: “We have already started to seize stolen goods and will continue to target anyone we believe was involved in the looting, so please keep your information coming in.”

A MOTHER of a 15 year-old rioter caught attempting to prise open a shutter of a shop in Salford has handed him to the police. The boy is being questioned on suspicion of burglary. GMP Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan said: "What she did is extremely admirable and I thank her for handing him into local officers as it must have been a hard thing to do.”

VERA PEARSON, one of the patients who died at Stepping Hill hospital, has been ruled out of the investigation. Pearson, 84, died on July 14, from what was thought to be a contaminated saline solution. Three other patients are still connected to the saline scandal, however. Rebecca Leighton, a nurse at the hospital, is on remand and expected to stand trial next year.

MANCHESTER ART GALLERY has been nominated to display artwork previously  thought to be missing by British artist Ford Madox Brown. ‘The Seraph’s Watch’ was last seen in 1896 and was discovered two years ago at a private auction. The painting is set to feature in an exhibition of 140 pieces, including Brown’s most famous piece, ‘The Last of England’.
