A SHOPKEEPER is being held by police after a man was stabbed to death during a raid on his shop in Old Trafford. The 72-year-old was arrested after the incident on Shrewsbury Street at 9:40pm last night. A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and later died. Greater Manchester Police say the investigation is still in its early stages.
OLDHAM COUNCIL is hoping the 2012 Olympics can help create a lasting legacy for the borough. The One Future initiative has been launched to coincide with the one-year countdown to the London Games. The project will attempt to achieve a whole host of goals, including persuading the sport of handball to base itself in the area.
A POLICE OFFICER from Rochdale is the subject of a gross misconduct investigation after allegedly having sex on duty. Troy Van-Eda, 43, is accused of having sex with three women at two police stations as well as the women’s homes. The 43-year-old will face a disciplinary hearing later this year after Joanne Pinder made a formal complaint to Greater Manchester Police claiming she had sex with the Van-Eda in the boiler room of Littleborough Police Station.
RACIST INCIDENTS are taking place up to six times a day across Greater Manchester schools, according to new figures. More than 2,000 cases of abusive language, racist graffiti and violence were reported in the region’s schools last year. Worse still, school bosses admit than no disciplinary action was taken in nearly a third of those cases.
