MANCHESTER DAY TO BECOME AN ANNUAL EVENT: Plans have been set in motion for a 2011 Manchester Day celebration. The parade enjoyed a very successful first year with 75,000 spectators. City chiefs hope to get restaurants, shops and cafés involved next year with Manchester Day discounts. Town hall chiefs will be able to give the preparations the go-ahead next week when the council papers are up for approval.

RAP STAR TO APPEAR ON CORRIE: Snoop Dogg has said he would love to star in the show sometime this year, it's 50th anniversary year. The rapper, who is admittedly hooked on the show, started watching it 11 years ago. Snoop's agent has been in touch with the soap's producers who are reportedly interested.

TRANSPORT FUNDING SLASHED: Public spending cuts have resulted in Greater Manchester transport projects worth a total of £567.5m being shelved. The projects include a £50m package to improve train stations and a £54m conversion of Oxford road into a bus-dominated area . Ministers in all departments are expected to create plans for cuts of up to 40 percent from their budgets.

MOTORWAY DELAY TURNS TO FOOTBALL GAME: Motorist on the M60 enjoyed a game of football on the closed clockwise carriageway on Thursday. Their vehicles were stuck in a pile-up while police successfully talked down a man who threatened to jump off a bridge. The queues, which started at junction 17 in Prestwich, extended back to the Eccles interchange carriageway and junction 19 at Heywood on the M62.
