City News in 250 Words: Friday 23 July

Auctioned ashed exceed estimate: Remains of Frisky the Coronation Street Cat have been sold to a private bidder for £844, almost six times the expected price. The cat's ashes were only expected to get £150 at the auction in Gloucestershire. Frisky died in 2000 from stomach cancer at the age of 14.

Cuts for elderly home care: Bolton Council plans to stop providing care for some elderly people in their homes in order to cut costs. In order to offset the expected reduction in grants, the council wants to save £50m over the next four years. Those presently receiving care at home will not be affected but the eligibility criteria for people will be changing in the future.

Reward for lead in rape case: Police are offering a £10,000 reward to anyone who provides information for the arrest of Paul Atta, also known as Tony. He is wanted over the attack of a student who was sleeping in her hall of residence. She was threatened with a knife and then raped. Police say he's familiar with Rusholme and Moss Side, and has links to Preston, Lancashire.

Police resume identity search: The man's body was found in Scarborough on 4 May 1989. Estimated to be aged between 30 and 60, he was described as white, clean shaven, 5ft 10in, brown-eyed and weighing 12 stone. He is believed to have had connections to Greater Manchester, Blackburn, Todmorden and Calderdale. Detectives are re-examining the case as part of a review involving unidentified bodies.

Out of the window weather forecast: It's dull and gloomy but don't let that get you down. The weekend officially begins in a few hours.
