MILKMAN POURS AWAY LOWRY FORTUNE: Mottram milkman, Ben Timperley, dumped ten sketches worth £1m given to him as tips by his famous stickmen-painting client. Ben, who is now seventy-two and still does his daily rounds, explained: “I wouldn't say I like his paintings. I thought my children could paint better than him.”

HORSE AND JOCKEY SHOOTING: a masked gunman shot a forty-year old in the chest at the Stockport pub on Monday evening. Greater Manchester Police believes the attack was targeted and not random, although they are still investigating the motives and appealing for witnesses.

BECKHAM RECEIVES HERO'S WELCOME BACK TO OLD TRAFFORD: The midfielder, who returns as a Milan player for tonight's game against United since leaving seven years ago, arrived in Manchester to eighty screaming fans. The thirty-two year old says he is excited to be back, although he admits that it's the first time he has ever wanted United to lose. Meanwhile, united boss Ferguson is calling for fans to keep the high-profile protests against the Glazer family away from the match.

UNITED TICKET CONMAN JAILED: in more football news, Amrik Gill, twenty-three, of Chorlton pleaded guilty to thirteen counts of fraud after duping fans into paying hundreds of pounds for non-existent tickets to big matches like last week's Wembley final over the internet. He was ordered to pay £2138 compensation last April with an eighteen-month community order, jailed for two weeks last July, and received a one-month prison sentence suspended for eighteen months last November.

Daft American homily: Yesterday can’t be changed, but today and tomorrow offer infinite possibilities.
